NOTES / SCIENCE FOR A WIDER AUDIENCE

Beyond the maps.
Ideas worth sharing.

A space for clear explanations of methods, research questions and how Earth observation connects with climate and environmental decisions.

RESEARCH NOTES

From technical
analysis to meaning.

These are website explainers, not claims of previously published blog posts. Dates can be added when individual pieces are formally published.

CLIMATE / EXPLAINER

Why a hazard map is not the same as a risk map.

A hazard indicates where a potentially damaging phenomenon may occur. Risk analysis also considers who or what is exposed, their vulnerability and the capacity to cope or adapt. The difference matters when identifying real planning priorities.

EARTH OBSERVATION / EXPLAINER

What repeat satellite observations reveal about wetlands.

A single image captures a condition in time. Comparing observations across seasons and years helps separate seasonal fluctuations from persistent change — provided sensors, processing methods and interpretation are consistent.

POLICY / EXPLAINER

From spatial evidence to a better public decision.

Maps become useful when they answer a defined question, communicate uncertainty and fit the institutional setting where a decision will be made. Scientific rigor and usability should be designed together.

ACADEMIC EXCHANGE

Conversations
that build science.

I have delivered invited lectures and supported workshops involving researchers, public agencies and students working with remote sensing, GIS and climate change.

Teaching and capacity-building activities documented in the CV include georeferencing, GIS for forest management, climate vulnerability, water resources and environmental awareness.
